Training

The goal of the Training Service is to further the learning acquisition of all the persons in Caja Madrid, designing and implementing actions aimed ultimately at securing the objectives of the Group’s Strategic Plan and Tactical Planning, and helping individuals perform their jobs to their fullest ability.

The 2007 Training Plan was organised around three specific lines, to provide an integrated service to Group units tailored to their business and staff development needs: Banking for Individuals, Business Banking, Investment Banking and Finance Corporation, and Central Units.

Induction training for those new to Caja Madrid was a prime focus in 2007, due to the large number of workforce additions.

Also, the entry to force of the Directive on Markets in Financial Instruments (MiFID) called for a series of training actions to familiarise staff with its contents and the operational changes they entail, accompanied by refresher sessions on specific investment products.

Group staff continued to work to an Individual Training Plan (ITP) aligned with Tactical and Strategic Planning and their own professional function, with input from the Annual Evaluation of Skills and Competencies (online courses on financial products and for the teaching of specific skills). ITPs also incorporate a training-on-demand element via the request service of the Virtual Classroom. This service allows each person to actively engage in the design of his or her own training plan, maximising its responsiveness to their particular needs and expectations. Further input to ITPs comes from line managers, who can set the training priorities for their team through a dedicated Virtual Classroom facility.

With this philosophy of personalised training provision and responsiveness to business demands, the Human Resources Department's Training Service has worked towards the following objectives:

  • To give full coverage to business-related training needs (personal banking skills, financial knowledge for advising entrepreneurs and independent contractors, project finance, mergers and acquisitions), while providing training support to Plan 2010 targets in technology (J2EE, RSA-CMMI, ITIL, BPM, risk management, financial project management, interface usability and prototyping, advanced customer management) and internationalisation (language training, international specialisation programmes,… etc.). Other courses focus on the background knowledge (financial markets and instruments, contractual techniques) required for today’s marketplace.
  • For employees switching jobs, a telephone/e-mail helpline has been set up which adjusts their Individual Training Plans in line with their new functions and professional development path.

The Group’s training investment in 2007 amounted to 1.384% of the wages bill.
