Freedom of association

For Caja Madrid, freedom of association also means equality of treatment and opportunity, in that no professional may be discriminated against for being a trade union member or representative. In fact, when a workers’ representative gets to 100% facility time for trade union duties, he or she enjoys exactly the same conditions as when occupying his or her post (training, professional development, performance-related pay, etc.).

An open, transparent dialogue is maintained with workers’ representatives, based on a mutual commitment to and shared responsibility for seeking the betterment of staff working and social conditions. As part of this dialogue, the company holds monthly meetings with each trade union represented.

Proof of this engagement are the 73 Enterprise-Level Agreements signed between 1996 and 2007, and stipulating working conditions that improve on the terms of the industry-wide Collective Agreement. These include the Professional Promotion and Development programme, the Results Evaluation System, supplementary pension schemes, individualised working hours per centre, employee loans and advances, etc.

Following the elections held in November 2006, seven trade unions have organised sections in Caja Madrid.
