Upward evaluation

Caja Madrid operates an Upward Evaluation System for the Group's senior managers, supplementing other assessment measures. A sample of staff members rate their manager’s performance with reference to three basic functional variables; management style, the working atmosphere within the team and individual skills.

The fourth round of Upward Evaluations was implemented in 2005, resulting in evaluations being run on around 500 managers of different levels with input from some 3,000 employees.

Each manager involved was sent a confidential, individual report setting out his or her results on the three evaluated counts. They were then invited onto a development programme including one-to-one coaching sessions.

The coaching programme from this last round concluded in the second quarter of 2007. Around 200 managers attended external sessions, after which each of them received an individual report setting out the action plan arising from the coaching process, his or her progress in making changes and improvement goals for the near-term future.
