Security in ATMs

The following features have been incorporated to improve ATM security:

  • Lighting devices that clearly signal the card insert slot.
  • Secure keypad entry system.
  • Privacy screens.
  • Use of machine-specific codes.
  • Sensors for the detection of possible card-copying devices.
  • Re-entry of PIN numbers at the final stage of cash withdrawals.
  • Data control mechanisms, so each time a card is used its numbering is changed.
  • SMS message to customers confirming card transactions or alerting to suspected fraudulent use.
  • Recording cameras at all cash points.
  • Sensor and alarm control of front-door opening.
