Environmental management
Caja Madrid sees environmental management as a defining characteristic of the responsible enterprise.

In a financial institution, environmental management cuts across different spheres of the organisation’s activity. Building maintenance and refurbishment, purchasing and procurement are all areas where the principles of Caja Madrid’s environmental policy have a major role to play.
Environmental management is accordingly supported on four pillars, which allow us to review and improve our operational procedures while at the same encouraging ownership of these same goals among our professional teams and outside suppliers:
- Implementation of working procedures in accordance with the standards established by regulation UNE-EN ISO14001 for waste management, the control of greenhouse gas emissions and the reduction in the consumption of natural resources (water, energy, paper, etc).
- Extension of environmental criteria throughout the supply chain.
- Programmes to train members of staff and develop their environmental awareness.
- Active communication with stakeholders, who are relayed information on environmental goals, priorities and achievements.
These lines of work are coordinated by an organisational group, the Environmental Management Department, whose job is to oversee the Group’s progress towards its environmental goals. The success of these efforts, and their alignment with global strategy, is also under constant review by senior management who set new guidelines as the need arises.
