Restoration of the Church of San Pablo in Valladolid

The idea

The cultural project for the Restoration of the Church of San Pablo is a joint initiative of the Castilla y León Regional Government and Fundación Caja Madrid. It extends over two phases: the first consists basically of the treatment of the rising damp which has affected the main portal and is causing a serious loss of constructive and decorative material; and the second comprises cleaning, conservation and protection work, as needed, on the entire facade.

The project sees the publicising of the restoration process as an invaluable means to ensure the church’s future conservation. The corresponding communication plan includes the creation of an interpretation centre and the installation of an elevator platform so the public can get a close-up view of the restoration works underway on the altar wall.

Results

  • Fundación Caja Madrid has assigned a €1,505,000 budget for the restoration works.
  • The communication plan has cost a total of €1,346,871.
  • Over 20,000 people visited the work site between May and December 2007.
