From its beginnings, the institution has returned a large part of its profits to society through Obra Social Caja Madrid and Fundación Caja Madrid, contributing to the socioeconomic progress of the communities where it does business. In 2008 a total of €278 million was spent on the programmes run by Obra Social and Fundación Caja Madrid.

And in its savings bank business, Caja Madrid is Spain's fourth largest financial group with total business volume of €273,905 million at the close of 2008, and an attributed net profit of €840 million.
