Sponsorship and awards
Sponsorship
Listed below are some of the diverse sports, cultural and social collaborations undertaken in 2008:
- Caja Madrid has signed a collaboration agreement for the next three years with the Spanish Basketball Federation, giving rise to two projects for youngsters: the “Tapón al botellón” campaign to involve youth in basketball as a wholesome alternative to street loitering and “Operation
talent”.
- The 29th Olympic Games were held in Beijing in 2008. As a longstanding sponsor of ADO (Asociación de Deportes Olímpicos) and ADOP (Asociación de Deportes Paralímpicos), during the four year run-up to the Summer Games Caja Madrid supported the training programmes of
our sportsmen and women for the all-important occasion.
- Golf was again accorded pride of place in the sponsorship strategy. The 5th Caja Madrid Personal Banking Golf Circuit was held in 2008, providing the opportunity for clients to enjoy a day of outdoor activity where companionship takes precedence over all else. Another major contribution
to the golfing world is Caja Madrid's sponsorship of the Madrid Master Golf tournament.
- In addition to other support for the race track, Caja Madrid has sponsored the classic fifth race at the Hipódromo de la Zarzuela since it reopened to the public. In 2008, some 2,600 customers attended the Madrid racetrack as our guests, with the chance to enjoy 187 horse races on
26 different days.
- An important new social initiative was the creation, together with GRUPO JOLY, of the Andaluces del Futuro awards to single out and reward Andalusians under the age of 30 who have made outstanding contributions in the worlds of culture, sports, business, science or
social values.
- Business encounters were again organised in a number of Spanish provinces. These events are not only a networking opportunity for entrepreneurs, they have also won recognition for the quality of their speakers and the presence of leading figures from the world of business and politics.
- In the cultural arena, Caja Madrid was present at the 67th edition of the Madrid Book Fair, an event whose popularity is evidenced by the approximately 3,800,000 visitors who attended.
- For the younger public, support was lent to concerts and other musical events including "MTV Day”, “MTV Summer” and “MTV Music Week Barcelona”.
