Caja Madrid works to a universal banking model, centred on the retail banking market, where it well positioned. The Group serves 7.2 million customers across all segments: individuals, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), large corporations and public and private institutions.

As part of our focus on strengthening the personalised attention given to our customers, the Caja Madrid organisation was restructured in 2008 to clearly differentiate the business and individual banking segments, with notable gains in the quality of our services and product innovation.

Caja Madrid offers a diverse family of financial solutions to individual and business clients in the following main product lines: savings products, loans, payment cards, pension plans, mutual funds, insurance policies and securities. During 2008, Caja Madrid Personal continued to develop new products and services to meet the current market situation and customer demands. In the corporate finance area, the Group's efforts were aimed at promoting structured finance products and marketing investment products for retail clients. Outside of Spain, the Group has branches in Lisbon, Dublin, Miami and Vienna. This international presence was strengthened in 2008 with the creation of the company Caja Madrid Cibeles.

As a supplement to its banking activity, the Group manages portfolio of investments in strategic sectors, including Iberia, Indra, NH Hoteles, Mecalux, Genesa, Realia and Global Vía.

The social dimension of its activity is addressed through the projects and programmes run by Obra Social Caja Madrid and Fundación Caja Madrid. In 2008 a total of €278 million was spent on programmes and activities in the areas of social welfare, education, culture, the environment and the conservation of Spain's historical heritage.

Caja Madrid releases yearly reviews of the results of its financial and social activity through the Annual Reports of Caja Madrid, Obra Social and Fundación.
