At Caja Madrid career development means more than just "climbing through the ranks". For us, professional development is the ongoing acquisition of skills and functional competencies that equip a person to take on greater professional challenges, in their present or similar jobs or functions or in a higher position.
Viewed this way, professional career development is the combination of specific guided learning activities and objective assessment that enables each individual to progress to their fullest potential within the organisation.
The goal, therefore, is to develop the individual skillsets and practices that drive success in a given function as a means to maximise performance.
The following are among the programmes designed to help staff acquire and develop new competencies:
- Talent-spotting and nurturing programmes and training actions: Activities that allow persons to improve in their current function. These actions include tutoring sessions, coaching, temporary training assignments in new functions, project allocation, working groups, critical experiences,
high-level training supplements, etc.
- Multiskilling programmes: So people can acquire the skills and knowledge conducive to functional mobility within the organisation.
- Geographical mobility programmes: As a route to new career advancement opportunities.
During 2008 these specific programmes were offered to a broader range of employee groups.
In addition, Caja Madrid runs an advanced Professional Development and Promotion (PDP) system, with the dual aim of boosting organisational efficiency and helping our people to manage their professional careers. It ensures that all staff have access to the same promotion opportunities
through a system based on results milestones and the evaluation of competencies.
