Noteworthy in this regard was the renewal for the third straight year of the agreement with the Madrid regional government of the Hipoteca Joven product to help give young people their first experience in home ownership. Around 21,200 home purchases have been financed to date with these mortgages, making Caja Madrid a reference lender among young people in the region.

Since the beginning of the year, Caja Madrid also collaborated with the Spanish Ministry of Economy and various regional governments in managing a package of different direct aids from the central government to help them rent their own homes.

Other important housing-related actions included:

  • Construction of subsidised homes and homes to be rented out with a purchase option as part of the Madrid Regional Government Housing Plan.
  • Financing home purchases by foreign nationals living in Spain who wish to buy a property in their country of origin with a loan arranged in Spain.
  • Loans to owners' associations to undertake the reforms prescribed in the official programme of technical inspections of buildings.
  • Loans to tenants who have been assigned homes managed by the Madrid Housing Institute (IVIMA).
  • Caja Madrid continued to collaborate with the government of the Balearic Islands to finance first-home purchases by young people, through the  Primera Hipoteca de les Illes Balears programme.
