Environmental compact

Caja Madrid integrates environmental concerns into its everyday business with actions on two fronts: minimising the environmental impact of its work sites and factoring environmental considerations into our lending and investment decisions.

  • Environmental management in the workplace. Informed by international standard ISO 14001:2004 and the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) system.
  • Training and awareness programmes. For employees, so that our environmental policy and concerns are make known to and embraced by the entire organisation.
  • Finance. Caja Madrid uses the environmental impact of business projects as an input to its lending and investment decisions. This is reflected, first of all, in the strict condition that corporate clients must comply with environmental standards and strive to identify possible environmental risks and, second, in financing of projects that promote the use of renewable energies. In parallel, emphasis is placed on developing products and services that contribute to conserving the environment.
  • Protecting our natural heritage. Working to mobilise society around environmental issues by financing and publicising environmental conservation and improvement projects, and supporting the environmental initiatives of government authorities and/or businesses through sponsorship, research, publications, workshops and other lines of action coordinated by Obra Social Caja Madrid.

This engagement with environmental protection is encapsulated in the Group's environmental policy. The policy was approved by the top management and frames our organisation's efforts for continuous improvement in the environmental sphere. It is structured around the following principles:

  • Environmental criteria embedded in all projects, and an internal management model focused on minimising the impact of our operations and facilities.
  • Ongoing improvement in the prevention of pollution, deploying all resources needed for this purpose.
  • Compliance with applicable laws and regulations and with the principles set out in the agreements to which Caja Madrid is party.
  • Positive proactive influence on the behaviour of our stakeholders and supply chain.
  • Collaboration in projects and initiatives to conserve and improve the environment.
