Environmental management

In a financial institution, environmental management cuts across different spheres of the organisation’s activity. Building maintenance and refurbishment, purchasing and procurement are all areas where the principles of Caja Madrid’s environmental policy have a major role to play.

Our actions in this area are structured around four pillars which allow us to monitor and improve operating procedures, while at the same encouraging our employees and outside suppliers to embrace these commitments as their own:

  • Implementation of environmental performance procedures in accordance with the standards established by regulation ISO 14001:2004 on managing waste, controlling air emissions and reducing consumption of natural resources (water, energy, paper, etc).
  • Extension of good environmental practices throughout the supply chain.
  • Development of environmental training and awareness programmes for employees.
  • Active communication with stakeholders to keep them informed on our environmental accomplishments, challenges and priorities.

These lines of action are coordinated by a functional group inside the Environmental Management Department that oversees the organisation's progress towards achieving its environmental goals. The effectiveness of these efforts, and their alignment with the overall Group strategy, is continuously reviewed by senior management as the basis for mapping out new guidelines.
