Training and awareness
Good environmental management practices can only be achieved by engaging all people working in an organisation, which is why Caja Madrid gives priority to environmental training and awareness activities.
Prominent in this area was the development of an e-learning course in environmental management. The course is designed to convey to employees the basic concepts relating to sustainable development and the certified environmental management system, with attention to the critical environmental issues facing the organisation and the role to be played by each and every person working in Caja Madrid.
A total of 524 hours of environmental training was given to employees in 2008.
Staff can also use the corporate intranet to access past training sessions dedicated to transmitting the Caja Madrid Group's environmental charter, encouraging responsible consumption of resources and promoting efforts to minimise and separate waste materials properly. During the year
the virtual classroom recorded 19,695 page visits.

As part of these efforts to raise awareness and imbue employees with the Group's environmental culture, the organisation's internal communication channels were also used to convey:
- Information on world environment days.
- Good environmental practices, fostering greater respect for the environment amongst employees and their families.
- Educational campaigns aimed at promoting responsible energy and water consumption practices and proper waste management habits at work and at home.
Similar efforts were also addressed to personnel of suppliers who provide their services on Caja Madrid premises, giving them written materials and training sessions on basic environmental management issues and good environmental practices.
