In order to promote the use of clean energy, Caja Madrid has signed collaboration agreements with different companies and government agencies to offer advantageous financing conditions for investments of this type. For example:
- The “Renewable Energies Agreement” promotes finance for solar power, wind, hydro and biomass energy, biofuel and biogas projects. The agreement targets small companies, independent contractors, local authorities and individuals in Spain. The total financing extended under this agreement amounted to €17.4 million in 2008.
- Agreements with companies like Endesa, Tajosolar and the Instituto para la Diversificación y Ahorro de la Energía (Institute for Energy Diversification and Savings) to provide low-interest loans for investments in developing renewable energy sources or to improve energy efficiency.
- Caja Madrid and its insurance business partner Mapfre teamed up to offer a policy covering damages to photovoltaic installations, including losses from production down time due to accidents or lack of sunlight.
