Biodiversity conservation and protection
Team work Emilio Vera Vidal0543 - Asset Finance Team
Caja Madrid works to halt the loss of biodiversity by protecting endangered species and restoring degraded areas.
These efforts include the following major biodiversity projects:
Two million trees
Now in its eighth year of life, this programme has planted more than one million trees, reforesting 2,157 hectares in 15 projects in 12 different regions of Spain.
Cantabrian bear
The various initiatives dedicated to protecting this emblematic species include organising and operating “Cantabrian Brown Bear Patrols” in Asturias and León, to monitor the bear's behaviour, study the risks it faces and take actions to help preserve the 130 remaining specimens. The digital
photographic archive compiled in this project now includes more than 8,000 photographs taken in recent years.
Preservation of raptors in Montejo de la Vega
The actions carried out in this ecologically rich 2,100-hectare enclave are aimed at improving the protection and management of species such as the griffon vulture, the golden eagle and the Egyptian vulture.
Taking flight: Spanish imperial eagle preservation programme
Focusing on management of the species' habitat through collaboration agreements with landowners, conservation actions, and education and awareness activities regarding the bird and its endangered state.
