The educational activities were primarily channelled through the following initiatives:
“Agenda 21 schools programme”
This project brings schoolchildren together to analyse the environmental problems affecting the areas where they live and think about their causes and how to solve them, or at least mitigate their worst effects. In the 2008/09 school year it has been carried out in 38 schools, reaching
7,561 pupils, in the eastern part of the region of Madrid.
Healthy planet, healthy eating
This is a travelling environmental education classroom in a specially equipped bus. So far in the 2008/09 academic year, the bus has toured the regions of Catalonia, Valencia and Murcia.
Prize for Accessibility in Protected Nature Areas (PNA)
The first edition of the "PNA Accessibility Prize" was organised to reward the efforts made to date by the different entities that manage Spain's protected nature and wildlife areas.
Exhibitions
A total of eight exhibitions toured Spain, visiting 34 different localities in diverse regions and attracting approximately 140,000 people.
Trees: living legends II
Covering 50 landmark trees in Spain, this publication marks a continuation of the work conducted in the previous “Trees: living legends” project.
La Casa Encendida
The centre continued playing an active role in raising consciousness on the importance of biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. A total of 38 different training actions were carried out, with courses and workshops on bioclimatic construction, ecological gardening and other
related matters. Prominent in the lecture series were talks on changes in land occupation in Spain, architecture and town planning, market gardens, conservation challenges, the problems of urban areas and inner city green areas.
